The project consisted of a mixed-use development containing a new Decentralised Office, Social Welfare Office and Garda Station on a 2.5 acre site. The Department of Social Protection and Decentralised Offices are located on the southern side of the site and comprise of a two and three-storey structure over a basement carpark. The two blocks are conjoined by a suspended link that contains communal canteens. The Garda Station, which is a District Headquarters, is located on the northern side, and is three storey over part basement carpark.
Doran Cray provided a full scope of architectural services, equivalent to RIAI work stages 4-8 and acted as co-project leader with an OPW Senior Architect. We were responsible for detail design, building regulations, production of information, tender actions, project planning, works on site, snagging and completions.
The form of construction was traditional masonry cavity wall, used in conjunction with an RC framed structure. The external finishes, consist of render, zinc, brick and stone cladding.
